Stelvio Passo is one of the most thrilling/dangerous roads in the world. Top Gear's Jeremy, James and Richard rated Stelvio Pass as the best driving road in the world.
Stelvio Pass has a rich history spanning centuries. Initially, a route existed in the Middle Ages, but it was the early 19th century when Emperor Francis I of Austria commissioned the construction of a new, modern road to connect Lombardy with the rest of the Austrian Empire. This project, led by engineer Carlo Donegani, transformed the pass into a crucial trade and transportation route. The pass also played a significant role during World War I and has since become a popular destination for cyclists and tourists. So it was made before car invented and there are no lane lines there.
I arrived Stelvio late when it was dark, cloudy and rainy. Up there it were snowing and forecast said that it will be -2 degrees at night and it would be rainy/cloudy next day. I had summer tires, so I slalomed down right away in midnight, without great views then or the next day.
Please watch from Youtube, what is Stelvio Passo. Then you understand why I didn't want to ski this down in minus 2 temperature later in the morning.
